Time for SNP to deliver on ferry promises - Lyon

2.04.00pm GMT Wed 28th Oct 2009

Commenting on the report by the European Commission that concludes that the tendering process for the Western Isles ferry services was within State aid rules, Liberal Democrat MEP for Scotland George Lyon said:

"I welcome the Commission's report which gives a clean bill of health to the tendering process undertaken by the previous Labour/Liberal Democrat Executive.

"It is now up to the SNP Government to commit to an open and transparent tendering process for the Gourock to Dunoon route. This must be based on a passenger and vehicle service with no restrictions.

"The SNP promised new boats for local votes in the run up to the 2007 election. It is now time to deliver.

"Any attempt to renege on that promise will be punished at the ballot box. People have waited in vain for over two years for action from this Government and their local MSP - enough is enough."
